Artist's Description
Last weekend I explored the Apache Trail east of Phoenix, Arizona.
That old highway winds along the Superstition Mountains east of Phoenix, and up through ancient Apache lands, past Ghost towns and old gold mines, and then ultimately up and down a steep and winding two lane road with views of endless desert vistas.
Along the way, I saw a "turn-out" for a Forest Service viewing-point of Weaver's Needle...and in spite of the 108 degree scorching sun, I stopped and took the somewhat short, but miserably hot hike up the trail.
With the exception of a lone vulture way off in the distance I didn't see another living creature.
But like a crazed old desert rat, I braved the elements and soon enough was rewarded with a photo opportunity...complete with a beautiful sky...and a garden of hardy desert plants...including a few varieties of cacti like the impressive Saguaro with it's branching arms.
Weaver's Needle is barely visible in this image but can...
About Jephyr Art
I've always been interested in art but had done little more than sketch all my life...and even then I drew mostly just cartoony, line drawings. A few years ago, I decided to take a number of computer art courses at a nearby community college. I met an artist in one of those classes who became a friend and he encouraged me to look into Fine Art classes at the same school. It turns out they have a great Fine Art program teaching traditional techniques of color theory, design, drawing, life drawing/anatomy, oil painting, photography and more. I've learned so much (knowing I still have a LOT to learn) and after having nearly completed a Fine Art and Digital Illustration degree I now have a little more confidence to begin to present...

JOHN TELFER
Jephyr, Fantastic scenic landscape photograph. I love the foreground with the various colors in the dirt from the desert and what caught my eye is all of the smaller cactus trees down below almost looking up to the one cactus tree with its branches spread on top of the hill almost making the statement that this is what you look like when you can get to the top. The smaller cactus trees have not quite yet become to open up yet. On top of all of that you have a great sky that your eyes just follow with those soft white clouds appearing to be passing through. Fantastic photo. VOTED
Jephyr Art replied:
Hi John! Yes...that big old saguaro was a magnificent focal point...but there were so many other plants and cacti...and lots of color. As I've said...it's a beauty that has taken me a while to "see". : ) Thank you for your detailed observations, encouraging comments and vote...it's all greatly appreciated! : )
Ann Johndro-Collins
So worthwhile to come up with this beautiful desert landscape, Jephyr! Love the abundance of cacti and that more than half of the image is that stunning, clouded sky...very beautiful...and thanks for giving us a peak at Weaver's Needle! Like how the saguaro seems to be welcoming you and beckoning you on to continue the journey...Voted.
Jephyr Art replied:
I appreciate you stopping by Ann...thank you for your comments and vote. That sky was the star that day...and always creating different composition choices. Thank you again!

Jephyr Art replied:
Hi Sue, It was so still and clear that afternoon...and those clouds were really amazing! I'm so glad you enjoyed this photograph...thank you for commenting/voting! I do have some ghost town shots in my gallery but often tend to shoot smaller things I see. : )
Kathy Sampson
It has always amazed me that anything at all could live in that kind of heat! But just like in the freezing cold, there's always Beauty There to be Seen! Wonderful Image! Voted =)
Jephyr Art replied:
So true Kathy! I've decided to embrace living in a desert...and rather than complaining about the heat am looking for it's beauty! It is a wonder though. I didn't even see any insects...or birds etc that day...perhaps they had more sense than I?? ; ) Thanks for your comments and vote!
